History of the British Bulldogge.
It has been well-documented that the modern Bulldogge is the recreation of the extinct breed the Bulldogge. There are three separate true breeding lines of the bulldogge breed today, and several off-chutes and mixed breeds of those original lines.
In order to be a bulldogge, there must be certain specific blood lines and a very specific history which ties the dogs to the original recreation lines. The British Bulldogge is a true breeding line of bulldogge. The breed history is documented here.
The British Bulldogge is a member of the modern bulldogge breed which originated as a line of bulldogges from the 1970's and 1980's. The British Bulldogge is the modern recreation of the original Bulldog which is a breed now extinct. There are now one or two distinct lines of bulldogge being bred in the United States today, the British Bulldogge is one of those. The British Bulldogges breed true as a separate line with specific and differencing characteristics from other bulldogges.
In strict accordance with the mission of the breed founders, the British Bulldogge is its own line of Bulldogge and will remain true. The British Bulldogge has been bred down in temperament for deliberate non-aggressive qualities but maintains the physical features and aspects of the modern Bulldogge.

Bulldogges, it should be noted are not Bulldogs. The word Bulldogge is the name given to that specific blood line that was developed in the latter half of the 20th Century in
order to establish a new breed of dog that harkened back to the original Bulldog. The spelling in the name Bulldogge is homage to the Olde English grammatical style, and suggestive of the bulldog that once lived in England centuries ago. Any dog which is referred to as a Bulldogge is a direct descendant of the line of dogs which came out of the bulldogge program of the 1970's and 1980's. The term, Bulldogge, can only be attributed to such dogs that fall within these ancestry line.
Referencing the history of the modern bulldogge, one unwelcome by-product of the Bulldogges; success in the Conformation ring, obedience trials, and in therapy work, was a rise in the use of the dog in Personal Protection training. Most of this training was being conducted by people that were unqualified to do so. The popularity of the breed in Personal Protection work can only be attributed to the breed's excellent health, agility, temperament, and it's classification as a Working Breed, thus creating much controversy over the breed
intended function.
As the true lines were able to create enough diversity to allow the breed to grow and never inbreed, the particular breeders themselves could work on developing their own stock. From this, the British Bulldogge has emerged.
Disagreements in the agreed philosophies of the founding stock breeders resulted in a rift. There was a split from the original breeding associations, because of the desire of some to continue breeding the Bulldogge for its aggressive capabilities.
Tim Kelly, along with other associates founded the Olde English Bulldogge Kennel Club (the O.E.B.K.C.) in 2001. It was shortly after this time that Mr. Kelly came to the conclusion that the desires of some to breed the Bulldogges for aggression was creating a stock in which he did not want to mix his blood lines. This was the time when Mr. Kelly and friends went public with there strict breeding program that had begun several years earlier. Mr. Kelly and fellow choice breeders have been developing the British Bulldogge stock for over a decade now. He founded the official British Bulldogge Kennel Club in early 2007, commemorating a decade of stock development and a line which breeds true.

The British Bulldogge several generations removed from the original recreated Bulldogge stock, is well-established, and there are several breeders who work this line of bulldogge. The British
Bulldogge breeding program has been developed to ensure a true breeding strain of the modern bulldogge breed bred strictly for non-aggressive, non-threatening characteristics and demeanor.
